Dear Diagnosis

Over on The Family Network TV Facebook page, they asked, "If you wrote a letter to your diagnosis, what would you say?" I thought what a novel idea! I read the comments and some people are furious or exasperated. It can be exhausting. Then I thought about what I would say, it occured to me that I'm thankful. How odd is that? I thought it would be fun (and therapuetic) to write out my letter. Please share your letter too! What do you want that diagnosis to know?

Dear Diagnosis,

When you first came into my life I was very upset. However, I wasn't surprised. Troubles weren't new to me and you are no exception. Just another thing that happens in life. Oh sure I wanted you gone, like a wart on the end of a person's nose. Now I know better and I have learned a few things. After the tears, after the arguments, after fighting the system, I learned you aren't going anywhere. I learned we are actually better off having you around. Diagnosis, does that surprise you? I bet you don't get that response very often.

You see Diagnosis, you have taught us things we wouldn't have learned without you. Silver is refined in fire and that's what you are, fire. We are refined because of you.  I will bring the one-third through the fire, Will refine them as silver is refined, And test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, And I will answer them. I will say, 'This is My people'; And each one will say, 'The LORD is my God.' " (Zec 13:9) You have turned into a blessing. You can't defeat us. You can't step on us. All you can do is be apart of us.

Diagnosis, because of you we have learned what it means to have true perserverance, hope, true joy in the little things, determination, and most of all, we have learned unconditional love. We know what it's like to love without stipulations, without looking at behaviour or how someone looks. We love without prejudice and this makes us more accepting of others. We are more available to help others because of you in our lives.

As you can see Diagnosis, you came into our lives to destroy us and to turn our lives upsidedown but we are thankful. We thank you for coming because you have done us a great favour. You have taught us more than we could have ever learned without you and you're worth it. I'm okay with you sticking around for awhile.

However, if you decide to come as a life-threatening illness, I may have to rethink my stance and have you beheaded.

Signed,
A Mom

I love the letter you wrote and if I wrote one it would be very similiar. (although maybe not as well written) The only part of my sons diagnosis I would ask to leave asap (if possible) is his impulse control...that's the one thing I wish GONE.

This really IS great therapy! I will get to it later, but I know there would be lost of foul language in there, so definitely cannot post! LOL!
